Since 1958, company's foundation year, SO.RI.CO.M. LTD deals with the study, research, enhancement and exploitation of minerals, rocks and subsoil resources in Italy and recently abroad. In Italy, SO.RI.CO.M. deals with fluorite extraction while abroad researching and extracting chromite.
In the early 1970s, numerous researching mining works were carried out, which made it possible to determine exactly the limits and characteristics of the fluorite reservoir (CaF2). On the basis of the results, the fluorite’s field is composed of two types of material: one clayey (with CaF2 content between 50-70%, minimum guaranteed content: 50%) and one sandy (with CaF2 content around 20%). From the work carried out, it was found that the reservoir has resources for 11 million tonnes of clay material and 7 million tonnes of sandy material. However, for current economic and market conditions, reserves have been revalued to approximately 5 million tonnes.
The CIPE Interministerial Committee for Economic Planning includes fluorspar in the list provided on the second paragraph of art. 2 of Law No 752 of 06/10/1982 on the implementation of mining policy, which contains twenty-five "mineral substances that are of great interest for the Country".
Also among the substances recognized by CIPE, the Ministry of Industry by decree 28.07.83, included fluorspar into a list restricted to ten minerals of "substantial national interest".

The fluorite reserve is located in Bracciano about 50 km from Rome. It has been formed for the precipitation of the fluorine and barium salts determined by the contact between the thermal and mineral waters put into circulation during the late-quaternary eruptive cycle of the Sabatino volcano and the cold waters of the lakes areas included between the reliefs of the aforementioned volcano and the southern Ceriti mountains.
